your axe on my last trip

through Manzanita Lake

I was fortunate the fires

came later in the season

and i stocked up on our beloved

elderberries you mentioned

Sitting on your favorite ridge

overlooking the fields of foxtrees

thinking of Li Po 1200 years ago

and the time you made that drive

in your old ford truck one time

but stayed for your entire life
