The Ladder
A weight for kindness
the measure which is unbalanced as is compassion
the tendency of the heart toward light
and toward darkness
the interior is an act of mercy
by the building of a ladder
you can see the ladder if you know where to look
where when looking for it
is the building of it.
and others may see it and by not looking the rungs slowly
dissipate
into the soul’s memory of it,
like a youth that comes to maturity
waiting for the memory waiting to be seen again
once seen and once remembered begins the ascension
grows the light of recognition
the inner Jacobian memory of wrestling with angels,
and against the dark.
